2 advertisements for Loves Me, Loves Me Not

Being a Susan Dey fan is generally fun but one thing that can be infuriating is the fact that one of her projects exists but cannot be seen. In 1977, Susan Dey starred in a sitcom called Loves Me, Loves Me Not which was cancelled not long after it began. Presumably, the show is sitting in some Hollywood vault not being watched by anyone and whoever owns it won't release it in any form because they're sure they won't make any money doing so. Hopefully, pieces of television history such as this will be made available for everyone to see someday (I'm eternally hopeful!).

Meanwhile, here are two more classic ads for Loves Me, Loves Me Not:

Susan Dey & Kenneth Gilman

In 1977, Susan Dey and actor Ken Gilman (now billed as Kip Gilman) starred in a sitcom called Loves Me, Loves Me Not. We took a look at this short-lived show twice before (here and here) and it's safe to say that this 6 episode series is a holy grail for Susan Dey fans. Hopefully, someday this bit of '70s nostalgia will be available for all to see and enjoy!

Susan Dey gets press for Loves Me, Loves Me Not

As you may know, Susan Dey attempted a return to series television in 1977, three years after her successful run on The Partridge Family came to an end. The show was a romantic comedy called Love Me, Loves Me Not and, unfortunately, it was cancelled following its scheduled Spring 1977 six week run.

The series did get some positive build-up in the press, though articles were careful to mention that the show was green-lit at the last minute and was made rather hastily.

Some critics didn't seem to enjoy to the show (even if, in this case, they didn't say specifically why they didn't like it):

Other critics seemed to have a good reaction to Loves Me, Loves Me Not, but still felt that the show probably would not be on TV for too long (despite Susan Dey's obvious charm):

Susan Dey in Loves Me, Loves Me Not

In 1977, three years after The Partridge Family ended, Susan Dey returned to the half hour situation comedy format with Loves Me, Loves Me Not. She had spent her post-Partridge time doing nearly a dozen guest appearances on various TV shows and a TV movie (Cage Without a Key). Loves Me, Loves Me Not was a chance for Susan Dey to return to regular series television and in the starring role. The show was created by the team that would produce the more successful Soap later that year and featured Susan Dey acting opposite Kenneth Gilman (who is now known as Kip Gilman). The plot revolved around a California schoolteacher named Jane Benson (Dey) and her romantic ventures with newspaper reporter Dick Phillips (Gilman). Unfortunately, the show only ran for six episodes before being cancelled.
