Susan Dey talks about Emerald Point

Here is a brief but fantastic interview with Susan Dey about her role on the 1984 prime-time soap Emerald Point N.A.S. It was a great show that deserved, at the very least, a second season. Alas, the series was cancelled before it had time to properly develop, but while it was on it was a genuinely enjoyable piece of television history.

In this exchange with an editor of Movie Mirror, Susan Dey talks about the pressures of shooting a weekly soap and also discusses the development of Celia, her character on the show.

In 1983, Susan Dey made a return to series television when she joined the large ensemble cast of the night time soap Emerald Point N.A.S. Unfortunately, the show was short-lived (I would have loved to see more!) and only one season was produced (would someone please release a proper DVD set!). On Emerald Point, Susan Dey played Celia, the troubled oldest sister of the Mallory family. She looked great on the show, wore a variety of hairstyles and had a fantastic chic early 1980s wardrobe...but what you may notice most are her lovely eyes which are clearly striking even through old videotape!

Susan Dey and Richard Dean Anderson

Susan Dey and Richard Dean Anderson first appeared together on the prime time soap opera Emerald Point N.A.S. She played the troubled Admiral's daughter Celia Mallory and he played studly Navy Lieutenant Simon Adams and they had a romance plot-line on the show.

Ten years after Emerald Point N.A.S. ended its brief run on television, Susan Dey and Richard Dean Anderson teamed up again for Beyond Betrayal. The 1994 made-for-TV movie saw Susan Dey on the run from her psycho-stalker ex-husband Richard Dean Anderson, who just happens to be a police officer. However, because she was on the run from him, that meant that they didn't really share the screen together until the end of the movie. Regardless, the movie was sold on the promise of seeing these two stars together again.

Here are two publicity pics of Susan Dey and Richard Dean Anderson for Beyond Betrayal:

Susan Dey newspaper articles (1984)

Here some press pieces from early 1984 about Susan Dey and her part on the television series Emerald Point N.A.S. Yes, these three articles all feature exactly the same content. However, each one has a different title and photo and I didn't seem the harm in putting up all three. Click on the second two to see them full size.
