Revisiting Susan Dey on The Streets of San Francisco

A long time ago, we looked at Susan Dey's 1976 guest appearance on The Streets of San Francisco. Well, it's time to examine this piece of television history again!

Susan Dey was one of a huge group of actors and actresses who appeared on "The Thrill Killers," the two part 5th season of The Streets of San Francisco. However, Susan Dey's physical beauty and the fact that the formerly squeaky clean actress was playing a militant extremist, set her apart from the rest of the guest cast. This is also one of the few times in Susan Dey's career where she got to handle a gun!

Here are some updated images of Susan Dey on The Streets of San Francisco:

Clip of Susan Dey on The Streets of San Francisco

Here's a clip of Susan Dey on The Streets of San Francisco. Let me preface this by saying that I am not an expert with audio/video editing. That being said, the source of this video is from a relatively high-quality German broadcast and the audio is from a low-quality English language source. Syncing audio and video is a sometimes tedious task, as some of you may know. I apologize that the audio in this video goes out of sync halfway through, but there is not much dialogue in the second half. Susan Dey's voice is fairly in-sync during the first part of the video. I think you can get the gist of what is going on in this video, despite the audio inconsistencies. I promise to try harder with any further clips :)

In this scene, violent radical (!) Susan Dey makes a desperate phone call to the hospital. However, the cops have traced the call and Michael Douglas arrives on the scene.

In the fall of 1976, Susan Dey guest starred on two-part episode of The Streets of San Francisco, which served as the opening of the 5th and final season of the show. Titled 'The Thrill Killers', the double episode was also last to feature star Michael Douglas. In 'The Thrill Killers', Susan day portrays Barbara 'Barbie' Ross, a good girl turned radical. Inspired partially by the Patty Hearst story, the episode deals with an underground revolutionary group which kidnaps an entire jury after they come back with an unfavorable verdict in a case involving members of their group. It's worth watching just to see Susan Dey wielding a gun!

The Streets of San Francisco was done by Quinn Martin Productions, also the producers of her next television guest spot on Barnaby Jones. Also, this TV guest appearance by Susan Dey first aired just six days after the original broadcast of the premiere of The Quest.
