Susan Dey hosts Saturday Night Live

In early 1992, Susan Dey's career was perhaps at its zenith. At that moment in time, Dey was finishing up her successful six season run on the popular TV series L.A. Law, one of her most beloved TV movies (Bed of Lies) would premiere, and later in the year she would star in her own sitcom, Love & War. With her popularity at an astonishing apex, Susan Dey was called upon to host an episode of the legendary NBC sketch comedy series Saturday Night Live.

Susan Dey was a great choice to host SNL. Of course, she was a highly visible actress at this time and her name would be a great draw for many viewers. Dey was also quite adept at working in a comedic setting...she had begun her acting career on a very funny show, The Partridge Family, and had also starred in another short-lived sitcom in 1977. With over two decades of stage and screen experience, the talented actress would have no problem humorously hosting SNL.

Besides spoofing her most popular television characters, Laurie Partridge and Grace Van Owen, in hilarious sketches, Susan Dey also got to appear in some amusing scenes alongside SNL cast members Mike Myers and Rob Schneider. Dey, looking terrific in '92, also sheds some clothing in her monologue...to the delight of the studio audience and viewers worldwide!

Revisiting Susan Dey on The Streets of San Francisco

A long time ago, we looked at Susan Dey's 1976 guest appearance on The Streets of San Francisco. Well, it's time to examine this piece of television history again!

Susan Dey was one of a huge group of actors and actresses who appeared on "The Thrill Killers," the two part 5th season of The Streets of San Francisco. However, Susan Dey's physical beauty and the fact that the formerly squeaky clean actress was playing a militant extremist, set her apart from the rest of the guest cast. This is also one of the few times in Susan Dey's career where she got to handle a gun!

Susan Dey on S.W.A.T.

Susan Dey has had many great eras in her career and one of these was her post-Partridge period. Now more mature, not only physically but with more acting experience to draw from, the actress was able to do some great work on TV during 1974-77. Following the demise of The Partridge Family in early 1974, Susan Dey would spend the next few years starring in a couple TV movies and doing guest appearances on various television shows. One such guest role was on the cop series S.W.A.T.

In the two-part episode 'Deadly Tide', Susan Dey portrays Janice, the sister of a scuba diver who gets killed after stumbling upon some crooks. Upset and unable to get proper assistance from the police after her brother's death, Janice turns to Officer Jim Street (Robert Urich) for help. Street believes that her brother's murder might be related to the case he is currently working on.

Even though Susan Dey is not given much screen-time, she still makes a great impact. Stunningly beautiful and full of emotion, Dey is quite captivating. She does most of her scenes with Robert Urich (surprisingly the only time they worked together) but the actress also gets to do some dramatic scenes including one where she is confronted with her brother's corpse.

Overall, this is a great Susan Dey performance, one that was/is eclipsed by her appearance on Hawaii Five-O less than a month after the S.W.A.T. episode originally aired.

Redux: Susan Dey on Circle of Fear

One of the earliest topics we discussed here was Susan Dey's fantastic guest appearance on the horror anthology Circle of Fear (known originally as Ghost Story). As mentioned previously, Susan Dey's 1973 guest role on Circle of Fear was a nice look at the actress beyond the confines of The Partridge Family.

Why are we discussing this again? Well, mainly it is an excuse to put up 25 remastered images of a lovely, impossibly young, Susan Dey. When we looked at this performance previously, the pictures of the actress were incredible but the quality of the film print left a little something to be desired.

Beyond doing a solid job acting, Susan Dey looks absolutely amazing in her appearance on Ghost Story. So good, in fact, that I like to think that even non-fans (do these people really exist??) would be hard-pressed to deny that Susan Dey had one of the most striking faces and lovely overall visual appearances of the early 1970s.
