A long time ago, we looked at Susan Dey's 1976 guest appearance on The Streets of San Francisco. Well, it's time to examine this piece of television history again!
Susan Dey was one of a huge group of actors and actresses who appeared on "The Thrill Killers," the two part 5th season of The Streets of San Francisco. However, Susan Dey's physical beauty and the fact that the formerly squeaky clean actress was playing a militant extremist, set her apart from the rest of the guest cast. This is also one of the few times in Susan Dey's career where she got to handle a gun!

Susan Dey posed nude before First Love?
In 1977, Susan Dey famously went against her wholesome image and appeared topless in the movie First Love. But had she appeared naked prior to that groundbreaking cinematic experience? The short answer is no, but this circa 1971 article examines an incident that happened years before during Susan Dey's pre-Partridge modeling career.

Susan Dey -- known to millions of her young fans as virginal, squeaky-clean Laurie Partridge -- has gone and shown a new "side" of herself.
What exactly is Susan's new "side"? Well, if you must see for yourself, just pick up a copy of the Japanese (!) magazine which features a rather revealing shot of Susan.
Susan is wearing (1) a wide-open smile and (2) a half-wide-open sweater which leaves only half to the imagination. How and why did Susan pose for this shot?
Susan says it all happened when she was 16-years-old (four years ago) when she first began her modeling career. And that she was so horrified by the experience that she fled in disgust -- not even bothering to pick up the pix! And that she's even more horrified now that the pic in question has surfaced. That's what she says.
Well, if nothing else, Susan's semi-"nude" posing at least gives a real eye-full to those Hollywood insiders who insisted David Cassidy's au naturel spread in Rolling Stone would show the first--and last--of the Partridge Family "behaving so blatantly against their public image."
Frankly, we aren't surprised. After David and Susan, though, we wonder -- who's next?

A while ago, we looked at a press tidbit concerning Susan Dey's 1988 wedding. Susan Dey was at the peak of her L.A. Law fame at the time and the tabloids really wanted pictures of her private ceremony. Here is an example of the type of headlines she received:
Susan Dey talks about fashion and diets
Here's an enthusiastic piece on Susan Dey written for a fan magazine from May 1972. Topics covered include Susan Dey's eating habits and what clothes she likes and dislikes. It also mentions the name of her roommate...I wonder what happened to her?
Susan always manages to stay on a strict diet, keeping her lovely thin shape in great form. She eats a great deal of celery and carrot sticks and doesn't touch anything greasy or fattening. Sweets are definitely the thing that is not allowed as far as Susan's concerned and she can't remember the last time she had french fried potatoes. She admits, "I am hard to feed when I go to somebody's house for dinner, as there is so much that I don't eat, but people who know me well enough to invite me to their house take my crazy eating habits in stride."
Living with her roommate Jane Joyce, Susan more or less got Jane on the kick of eating only essential foods -- foods to make the body healthy and not fatty. Skim milk is on her diet along with wheat germ and most of the foods you would find at a health food store. She will eat fish every now and then, but she never eats any kind of meat. Somehow that's a "no-no" as far as Miss Dey is concerned.
When she gets dressed you can tell why she looks so beautiful. She wears clothes like a dream and it would be any store owners delight just to see her in their latest creation.
While Susan loves to loaf around in levies and sweat shirts, she is thrilled that the fashion colors this year are lavenders and purples. She takes advantage of these high colors, as she looks so well in them, and her wardrobe now consists of the latest sweaters and slacks in wines, purples, etc. She doesn't buy many dresses, as Susan loves to "hang around" but no matter what she wears -- she's a "knockout"!
When dresses in a skirt, she loves the look of loafers and blouses under sweaters. Kneesocks aren't exactly Susan's cup of tea, but pleated skirts are.
Susan loves to wear everything loos, as she confide, "I know that I'm slender, and if I wear anything form fitting, I look to skinny."
We think she's wrong. She's a knockout in whatever she wears, and what a lucky girl -- having a face to go along with her every change of clothes -- her every mood --her every whim!
Susan Dey's Partridge makeup artist speaks
Here's a cool little article that was published in a fan magazine in May 1972. It features some brief quotes from The Partridge Family's makeup artist talking about Susan Dey's routine and her great skin:
While interviewing Mel Berns, Jr. Susan Dey's makeup artist and for that matter, the entire cast's makeup artist on The Partridge Family, Mel had interesting little tid bits to offer all of us.
First he mentioned how important sleep was, but he knew that in this business it was something hard to obtain. With the long hours that our favorite stars put into shooting a series, there really isn't much time for rest.
"Susan has to be on the set about 6:15 in the morning most of the time for makeup and then a daily hair schedule." Mel went on to say, "with a face like Susan's there really isn't too much you have to do -- in fact she is one of the few stars that doesn't wear false eyelashes, she has the kind of skin that makeup just rolls on -- and off."

In 1977, Susan Dey and actor Ken Gilman (now billed as Kip Gilman) starred in a sitcom called Loves Me, Loves Me Not. We took a look at this short-lived show twice before (here and here) and it's safe to say that this 6 episode series is a holy grail for Susan Dey fans. Hopefully, someday this bit of '70s nostalgia will be available for all to see and enjoy!
Susan Dey acted before The Partridge Family
As an actress, Susan Dey first came to the attention of audiences through her role on the iconic Partridge Family TV series. Previously, she had done some television commercials and her face graced many magazine covers and pages. However (as some hardcore fans may already know), Susan Dey had done some acting even before that. The following article reveals that before she moved to Hollywood, Susan Dey was in the drama club of her New York high school. Two plays that she took part in, Arsenic and Old Lace and Summer and Smoke are mentioned specifically.
